Thanks to weight reductions and more compact installation dimensions, the station wagons will also be fitted with this new Multilink rear axle and thus also the 82 liter fuel tank.Multilink MkII is available with or without NIVOMAT shock absorbers, while a factory installed automatic differential lock is available for order.
In general
- The rear axle member of cast aluminium gives a lighter and stiffer design.
- A composite transverse leaf spring reduces weight, gives more compact installation dimensions and dampens road noise better than coil springs.
- New trailing arms as a result of the switch to the leaf spring.
- New lower control arms.
- New track/tie rods.
- New differential with cast iron housing. New designations are 1055 without a automatic differential lock, and 1065 with.
- New drive shafts. The inner drive shaft which existed previously now forms a single unit with the outer drive shaft.
- The anti-roll bar is now mounted in front of the rear axle and has integrated (vulcanised) mountings. Three different anti-roll bars are available, depending on variant and equipment.
- The camber and caster angles need not (cannot) be adjusted as the cast rear axle is manufactured with such precision.
- New hubs and brake discs with 18 mm greater offset mean that the same wheel rims as for the 850 can be used. THe tracking is the same as before.
- In addition some of the rubber bushes and their mountings are modified, as are the brackets for attachment to the body. The attachment points in the bodywork are unchanged.
- New improved pinion seal.
