General

The Dynamic Stability Assistance (DSA) control module has a built-in diagnostic system, the Volvo on-board diagnostic (OBD) system, which continuously monitors itself and its input and output signals.
Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs)
If the control unit detects a fault it stores a diagnostic code and the DSA warning lamp lights. The exception to this is diagnostic code DSA-122 DSA Warning Lamp as the DSA warning lamp cannot be activated if this fault occurs.Faults, apart from diagnostic trouble code (DTC) DSA-122 DSA warning lamp, disconnect the Dynamic Stability Assistance (DSA) function. In the case of diagnostic trouble code (DTC) DSA-122 DSA Warning lamp it is not possible to determine whether the Dynamic Stability Assistance (DSA) function is disconnected or connected by looking at the warning lamp. In this case the Dynamic Stability Assistance (DSA) function is always connected and cannot be disconnected manually. If the Dynamic Stability Assistance (DSA) warning lamp lights the Dynamic Stability Assistance (DSA) function is not working properly or is disconnected. If for some reason a fault disappears after the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) has been permanently stored in the control module (intermittent fault), information about the fault is stored in the control module.
Miscellaneous
Every diagnostic trouble code (DTC) has a counter which records the number of cycles which have been fault-free since the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) was stored (intermittent fault). A cycle is defined as the first time engine speed exceeds 600 rpm when the ignition is switched on. If diagnostic trouble code (DTC) DSA-221 Load signal is stored permanently the cycle is defined as the first time the average wheel speed exceeds 50 km/h when the ignition is switched on. When a counter is on 0 the control module interprets the fault as permanent. If the counter reading is greater than 0 the control module interprets the fault as intermittent. If the fault occurs the counter is reset to zero. When the counter reaches 254 (254 fault-free cycles) the counter is not updated any more.
