Checking/installing new air pump

Run a general check using the ST (System Tester) in position 3. If this does not show up any faults, but the air pump still does not work, there are other checks which will have to be made.

Checking ground point

Check that the pump is grounded to the ground terminal on the body.

Checking air pump

Jack car up.Undo the two outermost relay connectors.Connect the two blue wires.If the pump now works, the problem was probably a loose contact in the relay connector or the relay itself. Replace them.

Внимание: Do not let the pump run for more than two minutes at a time to avoid overheating.

If the pump does not work

If the pump does not work, check that the leads between the relay and pump are OK and whether there is a 12 V supply and ground in the plug lead.If there is no voltage at the plug connector and the system tester does not show any DTC, the relay is faulty and must be replaced.If the pump does not work, even if there is a supply and ground, the pump is defective and must be replaced.

Remove:

• the air filter housing and resonance chamber, see Проверка подогревателя входящего воздуха.
• the air hose to the engine
• the plug from the relay
• the ground connection on the body

Undo the intake hose from the air pump.Undo the two mounting bolts and remove the pump.

Installing air pump

Install in reverse order.

Checking non-return valve

Disconnect the rubber hose from the non-return valve and start the engine.Check that there are no exhaust gases flowing back towards the pump.If there are exhaust gases flowing back towards the pump, the non-return valve is defective and must be replaced.When making this check, use compressed air to keep the system clean with the engine running.
